The turtle is a symbol of mother earth as well as persistence and endurance.  Legends are told that when the earth was covered in water, the turtles brought the earth from the bottom of the sea to create the dry land.  The turtle shell is also seen as the animal carrying its home on its back.  When danger appears, they withdraw into their shell for protection.  With the turtle shell like a shield, a turtle spirit animal helps by protecting you from negative emotions and energy.  Sometimes a message from a turtle guide is telling you to slow down.  It may be better to be patience and persistent than quick and brash.
